My name is Nathan Phillips, and I am a freshly retired collegiate goaltender. During a five year tenure at Michigan State University I was able to study English and Journalism Education, spend an abundance of time serving in the community and play NCAA Division 1 hockey. Turning a page in my personal novel I am looking to enter a career in goaltender training, coaching and advising. In addition, I not only desire to specialize in goaltending but in all other aspects of hockey. My goal is to be an assistant coach in the NHL.
During my time at Michigan State University I was fortunate enough to be goaltending partners with some talented individuals: Drew Palmisano, Will Yanakeff, Jake Hildebrand, Zack Cisek and Edwin Minney. Even though my role did not include a heavy playing load I took this opportunity at MSU to re-evaluate my personal self and goaltending side to become a better teammate and a true student of the game. Words can't express how much I have learned from each one of those guys and it is because of them that I am inspired to spend the rest of my life helping boost the #GoalieNation in the United States. Just as others have had in the game of hockey, I was fortunate enough to have some incredible role models. I want to pay special homage to these fellas and they are in no special order: Ron Gay, Phil Osaer, Jason Muzzatti, Mike Gilmore, Tom Newton, Brad Fast, Adam Nightingale. The list could go on and on really, I have been extremely fortunate to have a long list of mentors that have day in and day out provided me with a professional model of what a great hockey coach should be. Welcome to my blog and I appreciate everyone taking the time to keep up with my journey to Finland. |
