Saturday, June 4th, I will be leaving for what I consider a huge stepping stone in my career advancement. I will be traveling to Helsinki, Finland to work with Jukka Ropponen, and his GoaliePro staff, for a week. During this time I will be working with a variety of age and skill levels of goaltenders, along with studying how Finnish goaltenders train and play. Goaltending development in Finland is incredible and I look forward to seeing first hand what makes their process top notch.
This opportunity to go overseas and learn is made possible because of TheGoalieGuild's founder, Justin Goldman, who works relentlessly to help provide anything to strengthen goaltending development in the United States, and worldwide. If you have any questions or want to learn more about Justin's work please refer to his website (www.thegoalieguild.com) or his social media.
During my time in Finland I will be updating this blog with pictures and will talk about my experience working in a different culture. Reflection is crucial to strengthen your pedagogy, I have learned this in my teaching education courses, and I really want to take this tool of reflection and utilize it in my coaching career. If anyone has any recommendations on reflection or how to help improve my coaching please let me know.
Please enjoy keeping track of my trip and I will make sure there is plenty of interesting stuff to follow! Thank you for your support!
